The Siri application was launched alongside the release of the Apple iPhone 4S, and has become one of the best known and most commonly used features of iOS. The voice activated personal assistant application is now one of the main reasons that people choose Apple’s iOS operating system, and has helped the iPhone brand remain a market leader in the competitive smartphone industry. Latest iPhone 5 information.
Siri is a voice activated personal assistant application which uses native applications and web searches to instantly answer questions from users, and can be used to carry out all manner of tasks. These include dictating emails and text messages, setting alarms and appointments in your calendar applications, updating social networking statuses, opening files and music tracks etc.
Web searches are one of the most common uses for Siri. When users ask a question which cannot be answered using data available from a native iOS application, Siri will carry out a Google search. However, as part of the recent iOS 7 update, Siri will cease using Google, and will instead use Microsoft’s Bing search engine, Apple Insider reports. Of course, the reason for this is most likely due to the ongoing rivalry between Apple and Google. Google is the owner of the Android operating system which is the biggest competitor to iOS.
A number of other changes have been bought to Siri as part of the update, with further increases to its functionality and performance. However, the change of its search engine is unlikely to prove detrimental to the user experience it. A number of other manufacturers such as Samsung have created similar applications like S-Voice, but Siri remains the most advanced and popular such application on the market.
Would you prefer Siri to continue using Google? Leave a comment to let us know what you think, and share your experiences of Siri in the comments section. All iPhone 5 contract offers from UK networks are available on our website.

Network providers including Vodafone in the UK advised users of the iPhone 4S not to update to version 6.1 by sending out text messages. The reason that was given was because of 3G connectivity issues and general reliability problems. These issues have been addressed by the 6.1.1 update which has arrived just 15 days after the original update was rolled out. The official statement that came with this latest update was that it “fixes an issue that could impact cellular performance and reliability for iPhone 4S”. For more

Since the launch of the iPhone 4S, this is the first time that it was dethroned by Samsung. Yes, the iPhone 4S lost its coveted title to the Samsung Galaxy S3. The Korean Tech Giant’s latest flagship, the Galaxy S3, is now the top-Selling US smartphone. For the very first time, Apple’s flagship has relinquished its crown to its biggest and strongest rival Samsung.
According to Michael Walkley (Canaccord Genuity analyst): “We believe this is the first month since the iPhone 4S launched in October 2011 that it was not the top-selling smartphone in the U.S. market.” The phone’s weaker sales are not an indication of the total demand for Apple products, but it is merely a break for Apple as fans await the next iPhone iteration.
Who knows what this new iPhone can bring on the table? Who knows, maybe it can take away Samsung Galaxy S3’s new title in a blink of an eye?

We are well into the festival season now when dozen of musical events are happening across the UK. Thousands of iPhone 4S users travel to such events and inevitably their phone travels with them. We look at some great accessories for such occasions and also give some tips on keeping your phone safe.
The main problem that iPhone 4S users have to contend with when visiting festivals is the device running out of battery before a whole day is done. With no electricity available this means either living without your phone or investing in a Mophie Juice Pack Air. At £59.95 this is not the cheapest accessory you will ever purchase but it is certainly one of the most useful. The device is a protective case for the phone which also features its own battery. This means that if your phone is dead it will still function when docked in this case. The Juice Pack Air doubles audio playback times and LED lights let you know how much power is remaining in the pack. If you do not have that amount of money spare then we do recommend investing in a protective case of some sort. Prices start form just five pounds and they really do a good job of protecting your handset. Another accessory that may appeal to festival goers is the iLuv Modern Box. This is a portable set of speakers that delivers good sound quality and runs off just 3 AAA battery’s. For around £15 pounds its the perfect way to keep the music going once the acts have finished.
There are some tips you can follow to help protect you iPhone 4S when visiting such events. Make sure you activate the screen lock on the device. Although this will not stop you losing your phone it does mean that if it falls into the wrong hands you private information cannot be accessed and calls cannot be made. Another good idea is to note down the customer service number of your network provider. Call this number immediately in the event of losing your phone and they can place a block on the sim card. It is also worth considering taking out some insurance on your handset. These start from £3.99 per month which us a small amount considering it will set you back around 100 times that figure to purchase a brand new handset.
The iPhone 4S has some great accessories available that will help you get the most out of your phone when visiting musical events and festivals. It is also worth remembering the tips we have given to help you protect your phone in the event of it being stolen or going missing when away from home.

In September we are likely to see the new iPhone5 unveiled in preparation for an October launch of the eagery anticipated new handset from Apple. This may lead many people to believe that we would see a fall in sales of older models such as the iPhone 4S but it looks as though models such as this may see a rise in sales thanks to the new model.
Leading tech website Digitimes is reporting that in the third quarter of 2012 we are likely to see a rise in demand for the iPhone 4S. The site reports that we could see an quarterly increase of between 10 and 15 per cent in sales of the phone. Many people will hold off purchasing this new model and tying themselves into a two year contract on a phone that is about to be replaced but many consumers base their purchase on cost and the new iPhone 5 will signify a sharp fall in costs for models like the 4S. This is already evident with contracts available at a fraction of their original cost. Effectively existing models such as the iPhone 4S and 4 will become more price friendly options while the new iPhone 5 will be the flagship model in the range. Fourth quarter results are also predicted to be impressive with an expected 28 million iPhones shipped. 6 to 10 million of these will be the new handset while the remainder will be made up of the newly priced models such as the 4S.
There is no reason at why we should expect the iPhone 4S to simply disappear just because a new model is being launched. The handset still offers some superb specification and at the new lower price point actually exceeds many rival mid range models have to offer. The stand out feature on this handset is undoubtedly the superb Retina Display. This excellent 3.5 inch screen offers a huge resolution of 960 x 640 pixels which results in a staggering pixel density of 330 PPI. Underneath the bonnet things are equally as impressive thanks to the inclusion of a dual core processor which ensures that the phone operates at very quick speeds for single or multiple tasks. The excellent iOS5 operating system also helps in this area thanks to its great power efficiency which does not place much strain on the processor. Camera features are also great with the device capable of recording video in 1080P HD quality and capturing still photographs at a resolution of 8 mega pixels.
Although it may be the iPhone 5 that grabs much of the media attention when it is finally released, the iPhone 4S will remain the top dog for a little while when it comes to sales. A reduction in the price of this phone should see it become a popular device over the final quarter of 2012.

One of the key elements of any modern smartphone is the user interface that it utilises. This ultimately determines how the user operates the phone and how easy performing individual tasks is. The iPhone 4S is renowned for offering one of the best interfaces around as part of its excellent iOS5 operating system. We take a little look at this area of the phone in more detail.
The interface on the iPhone 4S is one of the major attractions of this model thanks to its simple layout. Many rival platforms attempt to spice up their interfaces with a range of animations and active wallpapers but Apple opt against this in order to help performance and keep matters very simple. The main homescreen that is used by the 4S offers a grid layour with four rows each containing four icons. Users can choose exactly how icons are arranged and as many screens can be created as are required. To access the next screen a side swipe of the phone instantly reveals the next page. One thing that does not change on each screen is the row of four icons that is located at the bottom of the screen. This is designed for the most often used features on the phone so that they can be easily accessed whatever page you are looking at. At the top of the screen there is always an information bar present that informs users about how much battery life remains as well as other details such as connectivity, time and network details.
A really big improvement on the new iPhone 4S is the redesigned lock screen that enables users to access key features directly. Older versions of the phone did not offer this functionality and it certainly improves usability. Perhaps the most useful short cut present is the one which launches the camera feature, enabling users to take photos very quickly. Controls for the music player are also shown which means that audio tracks can be easily managed without needing to unlock the device, very useful for those using the device as a music player when commuting. Notifications are better than ever before on this phone and users can read these on the locked phone and if necessary access them with a sideways swipe. The phone also sports a brand new notifications centre which is where all alerts can be viewed in the one location. Users can choose which items send them notifications and this centre can be accessed at any time by swiping downwards on the display, even when using other applications and games.
The iPhone 4S is a superb model and the excellent iOS5 software delivers a near faultless user interface. The new notifications centre make it easy to keep up to date with what is happening around you while the ability to launch the camera from a locked phone is a very useful inclusion.
