In the music industry, the big news is the upcoming album release from hip hop superstar Jay-Z. With recent reports of an exclusive endorsement deal with Samsung, it was recently revealed that owners of certain Samsung Galaxy devices will be able to download the upcoming album before it goes on general release.

This is some of the first news we have heard regarding exact details of the rumoured $20 million deal between one of the world’s biggest electronics manufacturers, and perhaps the biggest name in hip hop. Earlier this week, it was revealed at the halftime show of game 5 of the NBA finals that Jay-Z’s new ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ album will be exclusively available to owners of the Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2 via an exclusive app which only works with these devices. The app can be downloaded from the 24th of June, several days before the album on the 7th of July. However, the first million Samsung Galaxy users to download the app will be able to download the album for free on the 4th of July. With millions of fans around the world, coupled with hundreds of millions of Samsung Galaxy devices used on a daily basis, it is more than likely that the first million copies of the album will be downloaded almost instantly.

Slash Gear reports that Jay-Z is likely to have made around $5 million from this part of the endorsement deal with Samsung. With rumours of the entire deal being worth $20 million, we expect to see more Samsung promotions from Jay-Z during the summer.

Rumours first suggested that we would see the update include the likes of Smart Scroll, Smart Rotation and Smart View, however there are no shortcuts added to the interface which would give access to these features. We expect that this is down to the limited capabilities of the sensors that are incorporated on the model as all of these features make use of the front facing camera. There is also every chance that said features will be included ahead of the release as it has been said that the update is still in development stages.
