The rivalry between Apple and Samsung is of course the biggest in the smartphone industry. As the two companies battle for dominance of the lucrative business, the rivalry was somewhat transferred to many fans of the respective brands.

In Nokia’s latest ad for its Lumia 920, the Finland based manufacturer has used this rivalry to its advantage. Obviously, the Nokia Lumia 920 which uses the Windows Phone 8 operating system is not directly involved in this conflict, but uses it as an opportunity to poke fun at the rivalry. The ad which can be viewed over at Unwired View is set at a wedding. The guests on one side of the aisle are iPhone users, while those on the other side use Samsung Galaxy devices to film the ceremony. Staff at the wedding venue look on from the sidelines with their Lumia 920 devices in hand, remarking that the fans of the two brands seem to like fighting with one another.

The ad finishes with the slogan ‘Don’t fight, switch’, which is part of Nokia and Microsoft’s Lumia marketing campaign encouraging consumers to consider the platform as an alternative to Android or iOS. It is also mentions that the Lumia 920 has been voted the best smartphone of the year in 2012.

The Lumia 920 remains one of the best selling smartphone models on the market, despite the fact that it was launched back in November 2012. It was widely reported that unexpected high demand saw supply shortages of the phone in several markets following its release.

It then floated to the edge of space to a height of 35,000 metres, which is surely the highest a mobile phone has ever been. During its trip, the handset was exposed to temperatures as low as -60 degrees, and then made its way back to earth.

When the phone landed, it was tracked down using the accompanying GPS tracker, and impressively it appeared to have sustained no noticeable damage, and worked as normal. Is Nokia Working On A Lumia Phablet?

Back in 2011, Samsung launched a device called the Galaxy Note, which at the time had the largest display of any smartphone at 5.3 inches. In conjunction with its S-Pen stylus, it offers superior levels of versatility to many other smartphones, paving the way for the now popular phablet niche.

Prior to its launch, there were doubts about the popularity of its large screen format, but the Samsung Galaxy Note has proven to be a hit, with an estimated 12 million sales to date. The device was followed up in September with the Galaxy Note 2, which came with an even larger 5.5 inch display, and this device also became very popular and critically acclaimed. Samsung has recently added to its line up of large screened smartphones, with a new device called the Galaxy Mega which comes with a huge 6.3 inch display.

It is likely that phablet devices will continue to grow in popularity and size, and some other manufacturers have also released their own phablet devices. Tech Radar has recently reported that Nokia may be developing its own phablet smartphone. Because Nokia exclusively uses Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system, this is a very interesting idea, as the majority of current phablet smartphones of course utilise the Android operating system. It is likely that Windows Phone operating system may be well suited to such a device, and would allow Nokia to build on the success of its popular Lumia series.

Nokia is yet to reveal any information about this device, but Tech Radar reports that its source on this story is the Financial Times, which is certainly credible source. Given the popularity of its Lumia series though, and the popularity of phablet devices in general though it would not be much of a surprise if Nokia was in the processes developing such a device.
