The Siri application was launched alongside the release of the Apple iPhone 4S, and has become one of the best known and most commonly used features of iOS. The voice activated personal assistant application is now one of the main reasons that people choose Apple’s iOS operating system, and has helped the iPhone brand remain a market leader in the competitive smartphone industry. Latest iPhone 5 information.
Siri is a voice activated personal assistant application which uses native applications and web searches to instantly answer questions from users, and can be used to carry out all manner of tasks. These include dictating emails and text messages, setting alarms and appointments in your calendar applications, updating social networking statuses, opening files and music tracks etc.
Web searches are one of the most common uses for Siri. When users ask a question which cannot be answered using data available from a native iOS application, Siri will carry out a Google search. However, as part of the recent iOS 7 update, Siri will cease using Google, and will instead use Microsoft’s Bing search engine, Apple Insider reports. Of course, the reason for this is most likely due to the ongoing rivalry between Apple and Google. Google is the owner of the Android operating system which is the biggest competitor to iOS.
A number of other changes have been bought to Siri as part of the update, with further increases to its functionality and performance. However, the change of its search engine is unlikely to prove detrimental to the user experience it. A number of other manufacturers such as Samsung have created similar applications like S-Voice, but Siri remains the most advanced and popular such application on the market.
