Alongside its latest iPhone model, Apple has recently launched the latest version of its iOS platform. Latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system sees over 200 new alterations to the previous version used for a number of iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch models.

After the first full day of iOS 6 being available for download, around 15% of Apple devices in North America which run iOS had it installed. The update is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S models, and of course the latest iPhone 5 version which comes with iOS 6 preinstalled. The new iPad and previous iPad 2 are also compatible with the software update as are fourth generation iPod touch devices.

Although many people have been very quick to take advantage of the new software update, a number of people have reportedly delayed downloading iOS 6 until issues with Appleā€™s new maps service have been addressed. Those who have downloaded iOS 6 will notice that Google Maps has disappeared, and been replaced with the new Apple Maps service. However, a number of problems with Apple Maps have been reported, but there is little doubt that Apple is already working on fixing these.

While we have the figures for iOS 6 downloads in North America, there is no data currently available for the rest of the world. Of course, Apple products are every bit as popular in Europe and Asia, so figures are likely to be similar. iOS 5, the previous version of the software took five days to hit the same 15% figure, so iOS 6 is already proving to be much more popular in the same timeframe. This number will of course increase though, as iOS 6 has only been available for couple of days.
